Wine and Your Health

Wine is healthy - there is no doubt about it. But how much wine can/should you drink per day? Here is a n answer to this and other questions.

How much wine should you drink per day?

The correct question would be: How much wine can you drink a day to feel the health benefits of this drink and to avoid harm to the liver, which is usually done by excessive alcohol consumption?

Literature and different data show that there are many factors that influence the alcohol content in the blood. Physicians in the United States of America recommend that a woman should not drink more than 20-30 grams of alcohol per day, while a man should not drink more than 40-50 g.

In order to see the positive health effects of wine of any kind like romanian wines, it is important that it is drunk at regular intervals and not in great quantities. The alcohol-rich dry wines are preferred for meals, while the sweeter wines are preferred for enjoyment in good company.

How much alcohol does wine contain?

Alcohol is produced during the alcoholic fermentation of grapes, which contain grape sugar (dextrose) and fructose. The sugar content of grapes is determined and quantified in Oechsle degrees. The winemaker decides how much natural sugar is fermented into alcohol so that he gets dry, semi dry and sweet wines. The higher the alcohol content of a wine, the lower is its residual sweetness. The alcohol content in wine varies from 50 to 120 g/l. The alcohol content in %volume of every wine is specified on the label.

8.0% alcohol by volume 62 g/L; 6 g of alcohol in 100 ml

10.5% alcohol by volume 83 g/L; 8 g of alcohol in 100 ml

13.0% alcohol by volume 103 g/L; 10 g alcohol in 100 ml

14.0% alcohol by volume 110 g/L; 11 g alcohol in 100 ml

Moderate consumption of wine is healthy!

People rarely die from cardiovascular disease in wine-drinking nations and this was proved by Prof. Reynolds in the 80s. Therefore, the "French paradox" is now recognized worldwide as being correct.
6051 men and 7234 women aged 30-70 years were observed over 12 years in a study by the Institute of Preventive Medicine, University of Chicago (1995). The most spectacular result was the mortality risk reduction with the increasing consumption of wine. It was proved that wine drinkers live longer because they suffer less from cardiovascular diseases, for instance. Compared to the people who never drink wine, the relative risk reduction in people who drink 3-5 glasses a day is by almost 50%. In other words, drinkers die younger than non-wine drinkers.
The consumption of wine has a life-prolonging effect. This effect applies not only to the reduction of cardiovascular disease, but is also reflected in the overall mortality. Drinking wine also protects against other diseases (strengthens the body's own defense system, protects against cancer due to the antioxidant substances, etc.).

Therefore, it is certain that the health benefits of wine are not only caused by the alcohol content of the beverage but the combination of the most valuable ingredients combined with alcohol.

Regular consumption of table wine

It helps prevent heart attacks and maintains the elasticity of the vessels because wine improves the blood flow to the heart muscle, lowers the blood cholesterol levels, improves the flow properties of blood and reduces the risk of thrombosis.

It improves the digestive power of the body for enjoying wine for a meal stimulates the digestive glands, supports the function of stomach acid, increases the intestinal activity and improves the yield of many valuable substances such as vitamins, minerals, etc. The appetite is stimulated, and the taste is more intense.

It detoxifies the body because the kidneys are active, increases the urine flow and the excretion of waste materials.

It supports the prevention of diseases because it reduces the viability of pathogens, can kill bacteria and viruses and increases the body's immune system.

It effectively tackles the dreaded traveler's diarrhea because it has an excellent detoxification function.

It slows the bone tissue and prevents osteoporosis, which is especially dangerous for women.

It favors "bioregeneration" after excretion. Moderate wine consumption replaces valuable minerals that harmonize and refresh the body.

It keeps you active physically and mentally because the age-related declines of the brain functions are slowed by table wine consumption and improves the cerebral blood flow and oxygen supply to the brain.

It is creativity-enhancing and can act to stimulate your imagination, which has been evidenced by many artists and individuals in the humanities and cultural history.

It relaxes and reduces stress
It extends your life expectancy because it contains natural antioxidants that slow the cell aging process and reduces the cancer mortality rate.
