Hamster and Hamster Cages

It is often said that dwarf hamsters can be kept in pairs or in groups, but I did other research and have experience in this regard in the current literature and journals. Now I have heard that dwarf hamsters are solitary in nature. In addition, it is reported by all (of which I have read it), that the dwarf hamster that is held for a long time together can even kill each other by biting each other to death.  And that's what is on my mind again. Sometimes after a few weeks, some after more than one and a half years, which was particularly shocking and depressing.

There are also people who have longer times kept hamsters together and even longer than you think you have understood. Because of all these circumstances, I can advise anyone in good conscience, not to keep Djungarian hamsters in pairs or in groups. And if they do, then you have to every single day examine them for bite wounds and also see to their external appearance. If one of the hamsters is emaciated, loses fur loses or is ill, it, could be due to the stress of other dwarf hamsters. If anything dwarf hamsters should not be kept in pairs, because more animals have been known to kill an individual without signs within hours, even if one believes that they are getting along great.

I have unfortunately experienced this. Many Djungarian hamsters I could save from severe bite wounds, but do the kids have to go through it? I do not think so! Many Djungarian hamsters are just a little longer together than the larger hamsters but they are basically loners. There are differences between males and females in the sense that I have read that males are more peaceful, I cannot confirm this from my experience, however.
In Roborowski dwarf hamsters since I'm not even aware of this and I have enough experience here that I want something exposed as a false claim. I hada couple (male and female) that than lived for a year together before they died. Now I have a new group of Roborowski dwarf hamsters, and one was bitten so hard that I had to disconnect it from the other and then a second was also bitten, but was not subsequently harassed by the others. Thus, the four are still together and I will scrupulously observe them.

First, dwarf hamsters need a large cage and a suitable impeller, because the dwarfs cannot enter the run as the center hamsters do. Also dwarf hamsters have a great need for exercise. Djungarian dwarf hamsters, the individual can be held and with care can even very tame. At best, they concocted a play area where the hamster can run wild, but cannot get out of the hamster cage. You can cut out sticks together, for example moving from strips of cardboard and make a distinction in the middle of a room. The strips should be wide enough that the hamsters cannot jump over them. Or one tinkers with 4 or more wooden boards and makes a distinction that is quite simple. You can glue together the wooden boards with tape and then fold them into the hamster activity. Within the definition can be a play area with wooden toys, feeders, tubes, branches, etc. . .
